The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), officially revealed in 2016, finally went ‘live’ on May 25th, 2018, and drastically shook up data security and privacy for any company affected. Critically, this new framework applies in new and expansive ways to anyone dealing with the information of EU citizens, so it affects a much wider set of businesses than a typical regulation. Failure to comply? You risk fines of €20 million, or up to 4% of the previous year’s turnover, whichever is higher.
